Every year on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S) and the widely known Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday takes place. According to givingtuesday.org, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Organizations of all sizes as well as individuals choose a charity and donate or give back in some way.
This year, Chiron chose a cause that hit close to home. When a family member of a Chiron employee came down with a rare neurological disease, we knew the perfect place to focus our #GivingTuesday efforts.
On a Wednesday in mid-August, 13-month old Benjamin became sick with what appeared to be an ordinary cold and fever after a fun day spent running around the woods with his cousins as a happy toddler. The following Monday, Ben ended up in Boston Children’s ICU, intubated, and paralyzed from the neck down. He struggled to breathe and was placed on a feeding tube.
After being diagnosed with a rare neurological disease called acute flaccid myelitis and spending 2 months in the ICU, Benjamin was transferred to Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore to begin intensive inpatient therapy to regain strength and independence.
Today, on #GivingTuesday, Chiron Health will contribute $5 for every donation placed. Any amount given will help this cause, big or small. Looking for other ways to help? Every share on social media can raise $37.
A big “thank you” in advance for helping out a member of the extended Chiron Family and participating in #GivingTuesday!
